'Archaeology, Ethics and Society: Exploring Slavery in the Dutch Colonial Context'

This speech at the Reuvensdagen (the Dutch national archaeology conference) addresses how the archaeology of slavery in an important flashpoint in our discipline. Presenting the modern sociopolitical context in which the archaeology of slavery must be seen, and the stories of two enslaved women from the Dutch Caribbean, I argue that this flashpoint must teach archaeologists the importance of an ethics of care.
